The customer was fed up with weeds pushing straight up through their existing stone every few weeks, no matter how often it was treated. The only proper fix was to start from scratch, so all the old stone was dug out and removed.

The ground underneath was levelled off and a weed membrane laid down before any new stone went back in, which is the step that gets skipped when this kind of job is done on the cheap. New stone was then installed to the finish the customer had in mind, and it should stay weed-free for a long time to come.
